ABOUT SISTERFACE

Tree of Life

THE ART OF LIVING OUT LOUD

SISTERFACE — THE ART OF LIVING OUT LOUD

Designer • Artist • Performer • Activist • Cultural Curator • Facilitator

SisterFace is a multidisciplinary artist, designer, performer, activist, cultural curator and facilitator whose work lives at the intersection of fashion, art, photography, philanthropy, popular culture and the ever-changing world of people and ideas.

For decades, SisterFace has moved between underground nightlife, performance, fashion, music, activism and the visual arts — from the legendary creative scenes of the East Coast to Hawai‘i, where the practice continues to evolve. What began in clubs, performance spaces and activist communities became a lifelong education in how people create culture: who gets seen, who gets remembered, who gets invited into the room, and what happens when creative people are given the freedom to make something extraordinary.

Raised within the unconventional creative worlds of discos, warehouse parties, poetry spaces, performance venues and activist communities, SisterFace learned by participating — observing, creating, collaborating and bringing people together. That history continues to shape the work today.

THE CURATOR’S EYE

SisterFace has always been fascinated by the people behind the image — not only the glamorous icons, but the artists, musicians, performers, designers, activists, visionaries and individuals whose clothing and personal style become part of their story.

That fascination has grown into an evolving cultural archive: a collection of fashion, photographs, objects, ephemera, memories and encounters documenting the people and creative worlds that have shaped SisterFace. The archive is as interested in the working wardrobe as it is in the spectacular one — the clothing worn onstage, in the studio, backstage, in the street, in the club and in everyday life. For SisterFace, fashion is never simply about what someone wore. It is evidence of a life. The search for the next story, the next remarkable person and the next cultural connection is ongoing.

FASHION AS A LIVING ARCHIVE

The love of fashion runs through everything.

SisterFace is drawn to extraordinary clothing, but equally to the stories held inside ordinary clothing — garments that reveal a person’s character, profession, culture, era and imagination. From figures in fashion, music and entertainment to independent artists and underground cultural pioneers, SisterFace continues to seek out people whose personal histories deserve to be seen, preserved and shared.

That same instinct informs SisterFaceDesign. Original photography, sketches, illustrations, graphics and textiles become another form of storytelling, transformed into kaftans, tunics, gender-fluid silhouettes, unisex garments and custom pieces designed for freedom, movement, play and self-expression.

The clothing is part fashion, part visual art and part cultural language.

FACILITATION, COLLABORATION & CULTURAL WORK

SisterFace’s role as a facilitator grew naturally from decades of bringing people, ideas and creative communities together. Whether working with artists, performers, designers, cultural organizations, collectors, philanthropists or independent creatives, SisterFace helps create connections between people and ideas — developing projects, opening conversations, creating experiences and helping individual voices become part of a larger cultural story.

This work has included producing and curating creative environments, connecting people across disciplines, developing philanthropic projects and helping transform personal stories, wardrobes and cultural histories into experiences that can be shared with a wider community.

For SisterFace, facilitation is not simply organizing an event. It is seeing the possibility between people and helping that possibility become real.

FASHION, PHILANTHROPY & THE NEXT ICON

Philanthropy has been woven into the SisterFace practice for decades, with HIV/AIDS advocacy remaining a central and unwavering commitment.

Through fashion, performance, cultural projects and collaborations, SisterFace has helped bring attention, energy and fundraising to causes including HIV/AIDS, LGBTQIA+ communities, women’s rights, civil rights and the continuing fight for visibility, dignity and equality.

That work continues through an evolving interest in iconic wardrobes and the people who created them. SisterFace is always looking for the next icon willing to participate — someone whose personal collection, story or creative history can become part of a larger cultural and philanthropic project.

The purpose is bigger than the garment itself: preserve the story, honor the person and, whenever possible, turn cultural memory into support for people who need it.

SisterFace’s work has been connected to charitable fashion events generating more than $118,000 across 2023, 2024 and 2025, through fashion sales, fundraising and related online auctions. The annual totals were approximately $48,000+ in 2023, $50,000+ in 2024 and $20,000+ in 2025. In 2023 and 2024, SisterFace was directly involved in the creative and philanthropic work surrounding the events; in 2025, SisterFace’s involvement was promotional. The numbers matter, but the reason for doing the work matters more.

ACTIVISM IS PART OF THE DESIGN

SisterFace has never separated creativity from resistance.

From early activism and underground queer culture to contemporary advocacy, the work has continued to confront inequality, discrimination, censorship, political hypocrisy and the forces that attempt to diminish human dignity.

Activism is not an accessory to the work. It is part of the foundation.

The SisterFace visual language — camouflage, neon, color, spectacle, AIDS ribbons, glamour and irreverence — has always carried another message underneath the surface: we are here, we are watching, we are creating, and we are not disappearing.

That commitment continues through photography, visual art, performance, writing, social media and the ongoing SisterFace body of advocacy work, including the evolving Neon collection.

The political moment may change. The commitment does not.

THE CAMERA, THE ISLAND & THE EVERYDAY

Photography became another natural extension of SisterFace’s creative practice.

The camera is not always pointed at people. Increasingly, SisterFace finds inspiration in the world itself — water, horizons, texture, movement, light, weather, flowers, architecture, sound and the small visual moments that make a place feel alive.

In Hawai‘i, that observation has become an important part of the practice. The islands provide a daily visual vocabulary of ocean, sky, volcanic landscape, tropical color, wind and extraordinary natural texture that continues to influence the work. Some images are black and white. Some are intensely colorful. Some become graphics or textiles. Others simply document a moment. Not everything needs to become a product. Sometimes looking closely is the work.

THE WORK CONTINUES

SisterFaceDesign is not one thing, and it was never intended to be.

It is fashion, art, performance, photography, cultural memory, activism, philanthropy, facilitation and the continuing search for what comes next.

The Archive preserves where the work has been. The Studio continues making. The camera keeps looking. The activism continues. The next collaboration is always possible.

SisterFace believes creativity is a form of participation

— in Culture, in Community and in the world itself.

To create is to participate.
To remember is to preserve.
To be visible is to resist.
And to live out loud is the whole point.
