SisterFace — The Art of Living Out Loud
Designer. Performer. Activist. Cultural Catalyst.
From the back rooms of legendary East Coast nightclubs to the blazing sunlight of the Hawaiian islands, SisterFace has never simply existed — she has commanded space. For decades, she’s blurred the lines between art, performance, activism, and design, forging a career that’s as much about cultural transformation as it is about personal expression.
Raised in the heart of America’s underground creative scenes, SisterFace’s education was unconventional — learned not in classrooms, but in legendary discos, warehouse raves, poetry slams, drag cabarets, and activist marches. She was mentored by musicians, artists, and cultural revolutionaries, absorbing their fire and turning it into her own. As a performer, she became a drag persona with a cause — a towering figure in camouflage, AIDS ribbons, and fearless theatricality — a walking manifesto for queer visibility, racial justice, and artistic freedom.
She wasn’t just part of the scene — she built it. Across New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and beyond, SisterFace created and curated spaces for artists, DJs, graffiti writers, poets, drag icons, illusionists, and boundary-breaking performers. Her venues and platforms became sanctuaries for those who refused to conform, places where the marginalized could shine in full light.
The Designer’s Eye
That same creative force runs through SisterFaceDesign (SFD) — her Hawai‘i-based studio where fashion becomes activism. Working from original photography, sketches, and illustrations, she transforms visual narratives into tactile experiences: oversized kaftans, ceremonial tunics, gender-fluid silhouettes, and unisex garments built for freedom and play.
Her textiles are layered stories — sacred blossoms from the island, disco reflections from her past, flames of protest from the streets. Every piece is adjustable, adaptable, and made for transformation in the moment. It’s not just clothing — it’s armor, it’s celebration, it’s resistance.
Sustainability & Storytelling
For SisterFace, fashion’s future depends on reclaiming the forgotten. Vintage bolts hidden in dusty warehouses, fabrics tucked away in shop corners — these become treasures to rework into new life. Every garment is proof that sustainability and luxury can exist in the same sentence, if the process is rooted in respect for both people and planet.
Crossing Boundaries in Art & Philanthropy
In New York, she continues to collaborate with iconic figures and cultural institutions — using her platform to raise awareness and funds for causes close to her heart. Her work with Housing Works and The Vault blends philanthropy and art, bringing together collectors, designers, and performers to fight HIV/AIDS and homelessness. She is as comfortable in a boardroom of cultural decision-makers as she is in the back alley of a club — because her work crosses boundaries and refuses to be contained.
The Island & The World
Now living in Hawai‘i with her husband — a renowned painter and creative partner — SisterFace draws daily inspiration from the islands. The tropical sun, vast ocean, and sacred mountains infuse her textiles with explosive color, giant flora prints, and illusions of water and movement. Her studio hums with creation: sketches, collages, graphic experiments, fabric manipulations — each one an answer to the question: What does the world need to see right now?
A Living Manifesto
Unisex. Non-binary. Avant-garde. SisterFace’s work is a living embodiment of her core belief: that art and activism are inseparable, that every stitch can carry a message, and that fashion should be worn as boldly as one lives.
“I’m not just making clothes. I’m making statements. I’m making history. And I’m making sure we’re seen.” — SisterFace
